EPI member James McLaughlin completed a detailed patent search regarding hydraulic fracture plugging of transverse fractures. Over two hundred patents were researched, seventy of those reviewed in significant detail. The large number of patents and patent applications in this topic highlights strong interest in height growth containment in some cases and in other cases cutting across interfaces for greater fracture height.
This patent information is now available for EPI to use for Client projects.

EPI members Ken Olsen and Sidney Green met with EPI collaborator Dr. Alan Todd to discuss the use of downhole particle accelerators for oil/gas reservoir wireline measurements. The meeting was held in Washington D.C. in connection with the 2016 Annual National Academy of Engineering meeting. EPI is pursuing a possible program with the Fermilab in Chicago to use commercially available particle accelerators for deep earth rock evaluation.
